KLJ: PVC Alternatives for Medicals

Thermoplastic Elastomer (TPE)

KLJ is producing TPE (Prene) for last two decades in below rubber chemistry:

• SBS
• SEBS (Saturated Rubber)
• PP/EPDM-Dynamically Vulcanized( TPV)

They have the following limitations:

• Some TPEs have low Tg, so they cannot be autoclaved
• The clarity is not as good as PVC due to dispersed crystallites

KLJ: Prene (TPE) Advantages in Medical

• Prene- is Biocompatible and Irritation Free
• Safe and compliant with Cytotoxicity requirements
• Completely recyclable
• Low energy consumption and minimum waste
• Excellent barrier properties against air and moisture
• Can be sterilized by ETO and Gamma radiations
• Hard grades can be autoclaved
• Have high purity and low level of extractable
• Shore hardness range of 00 Shore A to 66D
• In transparent/translucent and range of colours
• Cost effective and providing flexibility of design

KLJ Prene (TPE): Typical Applications

• Syringe Gaskets
• Medical Tubes
• Oxygen / face mask
• Self-sealing Bottle Closure
• Orthopaedic Heel Pads

Traditional KLJ Plasticizers for Medical Compounds

A wide range of PLASTICIZERS are available for Food Contact & Medical applications.

When the PVC is designed to contact Blood and Blood products the choice is extremely limited. The principal Plasticizer used for such applications is DOP, which offers the benefits of overall performance, ready availability at high purity and cost effectiveness.

Other plasticizers often favoured for selective applications such as for the storage of platelets are TOTM, ATBC and DOTP. PVC material used for contact with Blood and Blood products, must in addition to meeting physical, chemical and biological requirements have sufficient permeability to Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide for the specific application envisaged.

Advantages of KLJKanatol 800 (DOP)

• Residual Alcohol in our normal Kanatol 800 is around 300 ppm.
• Residual Alcohol is 200 ppm in Kanatol 800 SUPER against the international specification of 300 ppm max.
• Our Kanatol 800 is almost odorless as compared to any other supplier.
• No Batch to Batch variation phenomena due to proprietary process

Typical Applications of Kanatol 800

• Blood Storage Bags
• IV Bags
• Catheters
• Dialysis Tubing
• Feeding Equipment
• Oxygen masks and Tubes
• Endotracheal & Tracheostomy tubes
• Humidifier Equipment & Resuscitator and Ventilator Components etc. & lot more

Kanatol 800 advantages in Medical Compounds:

• Long shelf-life
• Transparent
• Withstands high pressures without leaking
• Withstands both freezing and steam sterilization
• Collapse when empty, therefore they do not have to be injected with sterile air to replace the blood or fluid being withdrawn
• Excellent barrier properties against air and moisture
• Contributes to the extended storage of red blood cells
• Doubles shelf life compared to other plasticizers

KLJ Kanatol 8080 (DOTP) : Alternatives for Medicals Kanatol 8080

• Food Contact approved
• Better bonding/compatibility due to unique structure
• Lubricating itself
• Rare combination of low volatility, less migration, ease of process
• Non Compatible with Secondary Plasticizers
• Non-Phthalate replacement of DOP :

Kanatol 3400 AC

• Food Contact approved
• Higher efficiency with thermal stability equivalent to DINP
• Mechanical properties close to DOP
• Higher Boiling point with low volatility
• Compatible with Adipates for achieving Cold Flexibility

Kanamoll 620/650

• A scavenger for Hydrochloric Acid
• Secondary by nature
• Imparts better Thermal behavior
• Oxirane value 5.9 to 6.5
• Product Consistency of Kanamoll
