Nanotech Based Conductive Polymer Compounds For
Medical Applications

Abstract:
NANO is power, NANO is big, of course sounds just the
opposite of the definition of NANO. NANO Technology offers
the promise of delivering “mega” results in many fields
however the process has to go through “mega” challenges.
Today, Nanotechnology-enabled products are well on the
path of commercialization in many industries., that
includes a product portfolio from Ovation Polymers.
Polymers – the wonder material of the century when
combined with “nano-materials” – opens up tremendous
possibilities of new engineered materials with extreme
functional properties., the results can already be seen in
the Electronic industries, drug delivery, Medical devices,
and alternative energy, just to name a few.
Ovation Polymers offers a range of nanotechnology–based
polymer compounds, composites and semi-finished parts with
amazing tunable functional properties, such as: electrical
conductivity, thermal conductivity, mechanical properties
and opto-electronic properties for various unique
application opportunities in medical device sector. The
electrically conducting compounds OpteSTATTM is made from
Carbon nano tubes or Fibers which has “tiny nano
structures about 80,000 times smaller in diameter than a
human hair”. Most of these outstanding properties arise
from their ultra-strong SP2 hybridized bonds and extremely
high aspect ratio making them almost one dimensional in
structure.
The OpteSTATTM materials, are “smart Nano” conductor in a
polymer matrix – that can be intelligently used as
“smart-sensors” or commonly known as electrodes for
bio-potential detection. Most common applications are for
Brain wave detection, Cardio measurements, and muscle
movement detection in a human body.
NemconTM H thermally conducting composites are used in
thermal management in medical devices where critical
thermal conductivity coupled with design flexibility and
lightweight of plastics play critical role.
Opti-Clad, Acrylotem M and Acrylotem N are based on
proprietary acrylic chemistry, that offers high
performance coatings and biocompatible Polymers, where,
Refractive index, glass transition temperature (Tg), and
conductivity are important properties for many
applications such as medical implant, optical fibers in
medical device.
Present paper will cover some of these important products
based on practical NANO Technology innovation and
commercialization from the research portfolio of Ovation
Polymers.

Left India for USA in 1974 August for higher studies, then
came back to India in Dec 1988, then after staying in
India for about 14 years, went back to USA in 2002 Sept.
Dr. Banerjie has more than 20 patents and publications to
his credit.
Dr. Banerjie has received various prestigious awards both
in India & USA.
Dr. Banerjie’s mission is to make Innovation, and
Commercialization a routine process, thus making
‘frontiers of Technology’ to work for better life & fun
for human being.
Work experience :
1977 through 1986 worked in various positions of
responsibilities in the areas of Polymer research,
technology innovations, and new product commercialization
with multinational companies in USA, : B.F. Goodrich,
Honeywell, and Armstrong world Industries.
From 1986 started a new journey as Entrepreneur –
1986: First venture was : Polymerix Inc, USA, under the
leadership of a great Mentor – Dr. Wolfgang Mack [the then
President and CEO of Werner & Pfleiderer of USA].
1989: Second venture was a “solo act” – the company is
still operational in Chennai, India, under his 100%
ownership. The company – Inventa Technologies Pvt Limited
was founded in 1989 in Chennai, India. Inventa, a
technology driven company, with core competence in POLYMER
COMPOUNDING TECHNOLOGY, has been pioneer in many “firsts”
in India.
Inventa has been the first company to develop and
manufacture “Made in India” brand Twin screw Extruder.
First company that installed more R&D compounding
facilities in India.
First company to design, develop, manufacture, install and
commission a “Reactive Extrusion compounding plant: - that
successfully produced “Electron beam radiation curable
compounds” in India.
First company to design, develop, manufacture, install and
commission an integrated polymer recycling company for
“Recycling of multilayer multipolymer laminated printed
and metalized packaging films in to engineered polymer
pellets”. These recycling lines have been developed and
installed in the plants of a leading packaging film
producer in India.
Inventa continues to operate as a specialty machinery
manufacturing company, and also provides contract
manufacturing services – serving in the area of POLYMER
