Accuflow :
Microprocessor controlled infusion flow monitor.
Genesis of ACCUFLOW
Centre for Innovation
Incubation and Entrepreneurship (CIIE) at Indian Institute
of Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) under their National
Search for Innovation Programme ANVESHAN, awarded a Gold
Medal to Kolhapur’s Sanjeev Gokhale in the year 2004 for
his unique infusion flow monitor invention-ACCUFLOW.
Toikaa Pharmaceuticals Limited was identified by CIIE to
assist Mr.Sanjeev Gokhale in perfecting Accuflow,
conducting necessary clinical trials & thereafter
marketing the same in India & Across the world. This
process took 2 years and today, Accuflow is being
launched.
What is ACCUFLOW
Accuflow, the smart infusion systems and the only one of
its kind in the world, is a microprocessor controlled
device. This convenient & user friendly system has
following features.
1. Accurately measures infusion flow rates in terms of
drops/minute or ml/hr and total volume infused.
2. Compatible with all standard IV & micro IV sets.
3. Detects faulty IV sets with defective drip chambers.
4. An inbuilt alarm system that can be triggered with drop
rate deviation/or total volume completion.
Accuflow consists of an arrangement where drip chambers of
various shapes and sizes can fit.
Advantage of Accuflow :
Accurate Monitoring:
Accuflow is a microprocessor controlled infusion monitor.
The accuracy is guaranteed. The accuracy is as good as an
infusion pump.
Avoids unwarranted burden of nursing staff:
Avoids unwarranted frantic calls and visits from patients’
relatives, disturbing the nurses regarding the infusion
status (No Flow/Bottle empty etc.).
Save time for nursing staff :
The readings are prominently displayed on the LED display,
easily visible from the nursing station, so that even one
among them can keep a tab on multiple beds. It saves their
time, minimizes their hassles & their attention is drawn
where & when required without taxing them.
Accuflow has been successfully evaluated in clinical
settings at :
– Indian Spianl Injury Centre, New Delhi, Dr.G.P.Dureja,
HOD, Pain Management.
– KEM Hospital, Mumbai, Dr.Sonal Dave/Dr.Anita Shetty,
Associate Profs., Anesthesiology Dept.
– Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute (GCRI) & B.J.Medical
College, Ahmedabad, Dr.Bipin Patel, Prof. & HOD,
Anesthesiology Dept.
– SAL Hospital , Ahmedabad, Dr.Raj Rawal, Head of ICU.
Investigators experience with Accuflow :
1. Prof.G.P.Dureja, HOD,
Pain Management.
Our team at AIIMS, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre and Delhi
Pain Management Centre at New Delhi evaluated Accuflow,
amicro processor controlled infusion flow monitor.
The device was evaluated on 116 patients at different
levels of I/V infusion therapy. 42 patients undergoing
surgery in OT, 40 patients admitted in Intensive Care Unit
(ICU) and 34 patients admitted in our General Ward and
undergoing I/V infusions were the subjects of this
evaluation.
Our results have shown that Accuflow is an accurate
infusion flow monitoring device and we recommend its use
in clinical practice. Some of the salient features of our
observations are :
It accurately measures flow rate as drops/min and converts
it into ml/houir.
It is user friendly and even an untrained paramedical
personnel can use the device.
It accurately measures the total volume and sends an alarm
on completion of the volume.
It was found to be of clinically significant use
particularly in infants and children undergoing infusion
with microsets in wards as well as operation theatres.
Neonates and infants require an accurate infusion rate to
be maintained in order to avoid hypervolumia. This device
served the purpose of accurately monitoring the flow rate
in this age group of patients.
The device can be easily clamped to an IV stand and
displays are very bright and visible form a distance.
In critically ill patients admitted I ICU too we could use
it accuracy and found it be very useful in administering
life drugs at a controlled and monitored rate of infusion.
Our team recommends the use of Accuflow in day to day
practice both in institutions and smaller medical centres.
2. KEM Hospital, Mumbai :
Accuflow is accurate , very satisfactory and it is
economical. Accuflow is very sensitive and chamber has to
be accurately set.
3. Dr. Raj Rawal, Head of ICU, SAL Hospital, Ahmedabad.
First of all, we are using
infusion pumps and volumetry but still the
cost-effectiveness and “Made in Inida” these two things
are very much missing.
Apart from this, Accuflow
stand up with any international standard.
I congratulate the person who has potential this product.
I wish that Accuflow will be “synonymous” of “Standard
infusions” in medical field
4 Dr. Bipin Patel, Prof. & HOD, Anesthesiology,
Dept. Gujarat Cancer & Research Institute (GCRI) & B.J.
Medical College, Ahmedabad.
“Our team at GCRI, Ahmedabad has evaluated Accuflow
monitor, we have used different IV sets of different
companies and is compatible with all. We have used in
different patients from pediatric patients to geriatric
patients of cancer surgery. We have done trial in 35
patients and is still continued.
In our opinion advantages are
following,
It’s economical
Compatible with all IV sets
Alarm system works, and informs nursing staff about
changes in flow rate.
Decreases burden of nursing staff.
Good for pediatric age group patients.
