About the Conference

Polymers are the most important and largest family of materials being used in medical technology-these include PE, PP, PET, PBT, PTFE, PEEK, PMMA, PVC, PC, PLGA, PHEMA, Silicone rubber and Polyurethanes, a variety of liquid crystal polymers and some specialized polymers synthesized through biotechnology route.

Examples of devices where polymers are used  include:

Surgical dressings, sutures, adhesives, heart valves, vascular grafts, bone cement, artificial tendons and ligaments, hip-joint prosthesis, knee prosthesis, bone plates, dental implants, intraocular lens, hemodializer, oxygenators, catheters, blood bags, pharmaceutical containers, medical tubings, syringes, soft tissue replacement materials for cosmetic reconstruction, drug delivery implants, insulin delivery system, artificial pancreas, artificial heart.

The materials requirements for the above biomedical applications vary markedly according to the application being considered. The most important factor in selection of biomedical material is their biocompatibility. A biomaterial may be biocompatible in one application for a specific purpose, but not in a similar application at a different site. Therefore, specification of biocompatibility must include the conditions of use and evaluation.

The conference tries to highlight the materials the products and the processes used in the field of medical application of polymers.
