MEDICAL PRODUCTS

Medical products employ a variety of non-woven fabrics types such as :

  • Spunlaced
  • Spunbonded
  • Melt Blwon
  • Wet Laid
  • Carded
  • Air Laid

- U.S.A.  consumes over  2.5  billion square  meters  of  non-woven for Medical Applications

-What is our production and consumption?

INSIGNIFICANT

SURGICAL AND MEDICAL PRODUCTS

Non-woven offer extraordinary value-in-use in surgical applications protecting surgical personnel and the patients from the spread of infections diseases transmitted via blood and other body fluids.

In the U.S.A., non-wovens are employed in more than 90% surgical processes.

The products include:

  • Single use face masks

  • Head covering caps

  • Shoe-covers

  • Gowns

MEDICAL USAGE IN THE U.S.A.

MEDICAL PRODUCTS EMPLOY A VARIETY OF NON-WOVEN FABRIC TYPES INCLUDING SPUNLACED, SPUNBONDED MELTBLOWN, WET-LAID CARDED AND AIR-LAID.

MEDICAL APPLICATIONS IN THE U.S.A., FOR EXAMPLE, CONSUME OVER TWO BILLION SQ. METERS OF NON-WOVEN FABRIC.

SURGICAL PRODUCTS

Non-wovens offer excellent value-for-use in surgical applications, protecting surgeons, doctors and their patients from the spread of infectious diseases transmitted via blood and other body fluids. Disposable sterile non-wovens surgical gowns and patient's protective sheet drapes are superior barriers to body fluids and infectious liquids-borne pathogens compared to the conventional muslin textile fabrics.

Other Surgical non-woven products include disposables face-masks, caps and shoe covers. Non-woven face masks have high bacterial filtration efficiency, comfort to the wearer, convenience and economical cost as compared to the benefits and the safety it offers.

Several types of non-woven fabrics are used including spun-laced pulp/polyester, spun bond/melt blown/spun bonded PP Composites, and wet laid. Light weight spun bonded PP and melt blown carded rayon and polyester fabrics are generally used for caps and face masks. The barrier properties are imparted to non-wovens fabrics by chemical treatment and/or by combining with film membranes.

MEDICAL PRODUCTS

The non-wovens have almost captured the market segment of medical supplies as sterilization wraps, a sheet material to wrap items prior to in-hospital sterilization. Also the gowns for visitors are increasingly made of non-wovens.

In addition to the hospitals personnel, the non-wovens are being increasingly used in U.S.A. and Europe by the physicians, dentists, nursing homes, police, fire and rescue services, laboratories, blood banks, laundries, other healthcare facilities etc.
