The Use of PVC for Critical Medical Applications

Dr. CSB Nair, Director, Research & Development, TERUMO PENPOL Ltd, Trivandrum, Kerala State

Dr. CSB Nair was educated at the University of Kerala, Trivandrum from where he obtained his Ph. D Degree for his work on Catalyc vapour phase oxidation of aromatic hydrocarbons.

Starting his career as Research Assistant at the University of Kerala in 1946, he jointed M/s Peninsula Polymers Ltd (now Terumo Penpol Ltd) as Director - Research & Development in 1984.

Dr. Nair has developed a number of processes for the recovery and utilisation of chemicals from the Coal Industry, Fertilizer Industry and for pollution control. Three processes developed by him are in commercial production. During the last 17 years, he has been engaged in the development of Technology for making non-toxic PVC compounds for blood bags, platelet bags and for other applications and has four patents in the field.

Dr. Nair has published over 90 research papers and has 47 patents to his credit. He is a Fellow and Chartered Chemist of the Royal Society of Chemistry, U.K., The Institute of Chemists, India and member of the Indian Plastics Institute.
