INTRODUCTION:
Healthcare,
at $2.8 trillion, is the world’s largest industry
today and is the fastest-growing private consumption
category. A 26 percent compounded annual growth was seen
in expenditure on medical and healthcare services
between the 1993-94 and 1999-2000 period. The high
growth rate suggests that the industry is headed in the
same direction in India.
The
Asian market currently constitutes 34% of global
healthcare market valued at US $107 billion. It is
projected to increase to 45% by 2005 due to anticipated
healthcare spending of most Asian countries.
The
current growth in medical technology is 19% annually in
Asia – this is 3 times faster than America, Europe and
Japan.
